Making a privacy request

Last updated

Ask CoverGuard to show you, delete or correct the personal information we hold about you — and know exactly when you will hear back.

Who this is for: Anyone — you don't need a CoverGuard account. Where: Your Privacy Choices (/privacy/choices), linked at the bottom of every page. Time: ~3 min.

Why this matters

You have the right to know what personal information a company holds about you, and to have it deleted or corrected. This page lets you make that request in a few minutes and tells you, in writing, the date we will acknowledge it by and the date we will answer it by.

Before you start

  • If you have an account, you may not need a request at all. Signed in, you can download a copy of your data from Account settings → Legal & Privacy, or delete your account from Account settings → Delete Account — both work straight away.
  • Have the email address you used with CoverGuard to hand. We use it to find your information and to confirm the request is really from you.

How to make a request

  1. Open Your Privacy Choices from the footer of any page.
  2. Under Make a privacy request, choose what you would like us to do:
  • Know what we hold / get a copy
  • Delete my personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Opt out of sale or sharing
  • Limit use of sensitive information
  • Something else
  1. Enter the full name and email address the request is about.
  2. Add anything that helps us find your information — for example, another email address you have used with us. Don't include passwords or financial details.
  3. Tick the box agreeing that we may use these details to handle your request, then select Submit request.
  4. Check your email. Unless you were signed in with the same address, the acknowledgement contains a Confirm this request button — select it, then Confirm my request on the page that opens.

Making a request for someone else

If you are an authorized agent acting for another person, tick I'm an authorized agent, enter their name and email above, and your own name and email in the agent fields. You must confirm you hold their signed, written permission. We send the acknowledgement to them, and we may ask them to confirm directly that they gave you permission.

What happens next

WhenWhat happens
Right awayYou see your reference number (it starts PR-) and the two dates below.
Within 10 business daysWe acknowledge your request — usually by email within seconds.
When you confirmYour identity is verified. If you were signed in with the same email when you submitted, this is already done.
Within 45 daysWe respond. If we need longer, we tell you why before then, and the extension is never more than another 45 days.

Making a request never costs you anything: we won't deny you service, charge you a different price or give you a lesser service because you used your rights.

Global Privacy Control

We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If your browser or an extension sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of sale and sharing, and we don't load third-party product analytics while it is on, and we don't record our own first-party funnel or marketing events for you — no form needed. Page-performance and error reports still flow. The Your Privacy Choices page shows Global Privacy Control detected: yes or no for the browser you are using.

Tips

  • Submit one request per need. A second, identical request doesn't speed anything up — reply to your acknowledgement email instead, quoting your reference.
  • Using the same email you sign in with makes verification instant: submit while signed in.

Troubleshooting / Common questions

  • "I didn't get the acknowledgement email." → Check your spam folder. If it isn't there, your request is still recorded. If we couldn't send the email at all, the confirmation screen tells you so straight away — keep the reference number it shows, because that screen is then your only copy. Email privacy@coverguard.io quoting your reference and we will verify you another way.
  • "The confirmation link says it's not valid." → Links work for 45 days and only while the request is open. Email privacy@coverguard.io with your reference.
  • "The form says online requests aren't available right now." → Email privacy@coverguard.io and we will handle it as a request, with the same deadlines.
  • "It says it couldn't confirm I'm a person." → Reload the page and submit again.

From the CoverGuard Record to a quote request — without the surprises

With carriers exiting major markets, insurance is killing deals at closing. CoverGuard reads the CoverGuard Record, models which carriers are likely to write the risk and what cover should cost, and sends your quote request to CoverGuard’s brokerage team — before anyone signs on the dotted line.

CoverGuard is in Private Preview. Ask for an invitation and a member of our team will review it — usually within one business day. Available in all 50 states.
