Connecting with your agent or client

Link your CoverGuard account with the person you're working with — a buyer or seller with their agent, lender, or insurance pro — so you can share the homes you're researching and message in one place.

Who this is for: Home buyers and sellers, and the agents, mortgage, and insurance professionals who work with them. Where: professionals invite from any client record on the dashboard; both sides manage connections on the Connections page (/connections). Time: ~2 min.

Why this matters

When you're buying or selling, the homework happens in two places at once — you're looking at properties, and your agent is trying to help. A connection joins your two accounts so the work stays together: the homes you look at can flow to your professional's dashboard, and you can message each other without leaving CoverGuard.

The professional sends the invitation, and the buyer or seller decides what happens next. They choose whether to accept at all, and separately whether to share any property activity — nothing is shared until they say so, and they can change or end it at any time.

How to connect

Professionals: send the invitation

You never need to retype an address for someone already in your client list. There are three places to send the invite, and all of them use the email already on file and tie the connection to that client, so their activity lands on the record you're already using:

  • As you add them. Tick Invite them to connect on the add-client form. The client is saved either way — if the invitation can't go out, you'll be told that specifically, and you can invite them later.
  • From the clients table. Each row has a link icon: click it to invite. The icon also tells you where that client stands — hover it for the wording (pending, connected, or ended).
  • From the client record. Open the client and use Invite to connect at the top.

For someone who isn't in your client list yet, open the Connections page (/connections) and invite them by email there.

The record's strip shows you where things stand at a glance:

What you seeWhat it means
Invite to connectNot linked yet — one click sends the invitation.
Invitation pendingSent; waiting for them to accept.
ConnectedLinked. Also tells you whether they've turned activity sharing on, and opens your message thread.
Invite againThe connection ended (either side disconnected) — you can re-invite.

Buyers and sellers: accept the invitation

You don't send these invitations — your agent, lender, or insurance pro does. When one arrives:

  1. Open it from the email you receive, or from the notification bell in the app. Both land on your Connections page (/connections). If you don't have a CoverGuard account yet, the email walks you through creating one with the invited address.
  2. Review who it's from and any note they added.
  3. Choose whether to share your property activity with them. This is off unless you tick it — accepting and sharing are two separate decisions.
  4. Accept (or Decline).

What you'll see / What it means

  • Buyers and sellers see their connected professionals, a per-connection "share my activity" switch, and the message thread. Turning sharing off immediately stops your activity from reaching them — the connection and messaging stay.
  • Professionals see each connected client, whether that client turned sharing on, an Activity view of the homes they've viewed, saved, searched, and reported on, and the same message thread. If a client hasn't turned sharing on, the Activity view says so — nothing is shown until they opt in.
  • Accepting a connection also links the client to your CoverGuard client list, so their record fills in as they work.

Your property activity is private until you choose to share it, and sharing is always reversible. Sharing is forward-only — a professional only sees what you do after you turn sharing on, never your history from before you connected. Turn it off and it stops immediately.

Tips

  • Professionals: add a short note to your invite so the client recognizes it right away.
  • Professionals: ask your client to flip share activity on if the Activity view is empty — you can't see it until they do.
  • Buyers and sellers: you can hold connections with more than one professional (for example, an agent and a lender) at the same time.

Troubleshooting / Common questions

  • "I invited someone but they didn't get it." → Check the email address, then ask them to sign in and open Connections (/connections) — a pending invite also shows up there once they sign in with the invited address.
  • "I'm a buyer and I can't find where to invite my agent." → That's expected: professionals send these invitations. Ask yours to invite you from your client record, and the invitation will reach you by email and in the notification bell.
  • "The Activity view is empty." → The client hasn't turned on activity sharing yet, or hasn't looked at any properties. Ask them to enable it on their Connections page.
  • "I want to end a connection." → Open the connection and choose Disconnect. Either side can do this at any time.
