Using CoverGuard with a keyboard or assistive technology

Last updated

Find out what CoverGuard supports for keyboard, screen-reader and switch users, how to get round the gaps we know about, and how to report a barrier so we can fix it.

Who this is for: anyone who uses a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, magnification, voice control or a switch device — and anyone helping them. Where: the Accessibility statement (/accessibility), linked at the bottom of every public page. Time: ~3 min.

Why this matters

You should be able to check a property's risks and carriers before you bid, whatever way you use a computer. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We have not had an independent audit yet, so we tell you plainly where we fall short and how to work round it.

How to get around with a keyboard

  1. Press Tab once when a page loads. The first stop is Skip to main content — press Enter to jump past the navigation.
  2. Keep pressing Tab to move forward and Shift+Tab to move back. The control you are on shows a focus ring.
  3. Pop-up panels, such as the notifications panel, take focus when they open. Press Escape to close one and return to the button that opened it.
  4. On the property map, click into the map or Tab to it, then pan with the arrow keys. Shift+Tab to Drop a pin at map center and press Enter. The pin drops at the cross in the middle of the map, and its address is read out. See Property search.

What you'll see / What it means

The Accessibility statement lists what we do today and the limitations we know about. Today those are:

PDF downloads are not yet tagged, so a screen reader may read them out of order.Use the same Record as a page in CoverGuard, or email us and we will help.
The map comes from Google Maps, and in its fullscreen view the drop-a-pin control cannot be reached.Press Escape to leave fullscreen first, or search by address instead.
Some small text has not yet been measured for color contrast.Zoom in with your browser — it works on every page.
Our automated page scans cover the public marketing site; signed-in pages and the individual Help Center guides are checked part by part.Tell us about anything you find on those pages.

Tips

  • Searching by address does everything the map does, and works the same with any input method.
  • Public pages are checked at a 320-pixel width, the size a page reaches at 400% zoom on a typical laptop, so they reflow instead of scrolling sideways.

Troubleshooting / Common questions

  • "I can't reach a button or read part of a page." → Email support@coverguard.io with Accessibility in the subject. Say which page, what you were trying to do, and your browser and assistive technology. We will help you finish the task another way while we fix it.
  • "I'd rather use a form than email." → Signed in, use Contact support and choose Something is broken. Not signed in, use the contact form on the Help Center and choose Report a bug. See Getting help.

From the CoverGuard Record to a quote request — without the surprises

With carriers exiting major markets, insurance is killing deals at closing. CoverGuard reads the CoverGuard Record, models which carriers are likely to write the risk and what cover should cost, and sends your quote request to CoverGuard’s brokerage team — before anyone signs on the dotted line.

CoverGuard is in Private Preview. Ask for an invitation and a member of our team will review it — usually within one business day. Available in all 50 states.

Ask the CoverGuard Advisor what the risk means

The CoverGuard Advisor reads the risk, models which carriers are likely to write it, and estimates what cover should cost — with every number sourced and auditable.
