Accessibility

CoverGuard should work for everyone who uses it

We design and test CoverGuard against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Here is what we do today, what we know is not good enough yet, and how to tell us about a barrier.

Our standard

Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, for the public site and for the signed-in product. We have not yet had an independent audit, and we have not yet published an Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT), so we do not claim full conformance today. The Trust Center shows where that report stands.

What we do today

Keyboard access
Every page starts with a “Skip to main content” link, and controls show a visible focus ring. Pop-up panels such as the notifications panel move focus in when they open and return it when they close. On the property map, you can pan with the arrow keys and drop a pin at the map center without a mouse.
Names and labels
Form fields carry labels, icon-only buttons carry names, and status changes such as a dropped pin are announced to screen readers.
Target sizes
Small buttons and links are sized to at least 24 by 24 pixels, so they are easier to hit with a mouse, a finger or a switch device.
Automated checks on every change
Each page of the public marketing site is scanned for accessibility problems in our automated tests, and a new serious problem fails them. Code checks for common accessibility mistakes run on every change, and a change that adds to the number of open warnings fails.

Known limitations

These are the gaps we know about and are working on, and how to get round each one today.

Downloaded PDFs
PDF downloads are not yet tagged, so a screen reader may read them out of order or without headings. The Record you downloaded is also a page in CoverGuard, so use that page instead, or email us and we will help you get the information another way.
The map
The map is provided by Google Maps, and some of its own controls are outside our control. In the map’s fullscreen view, the “Drop a pin at map center” control cannot be reached; press Escape to leave fullscreen first. You can always search by address instead of using the map.
Small text
Some labels use small text, and we have not yet measured all of them for color contrast. Your browser’s zoom works on every page.
Signed-in pages and Help Center guides
Our automated page scans cover the public marketing site. Pages you see after signing in, and the individual Help Center guides, are checked part by part, not yet as whole pages.

Report a barrier

If something on CoverGuard is hard or impossible for you to use, email support@coverguard.io with “Accessibility” in the subject. It helps to tell us:

  • the page or the address of the page
  • what you were trying to do
  • your browser, and any assistive technology you use, such as a screen reader

Prefer a form? Use Contact support and choose “Something is broken”. If you are not signed in, the contact form in the Help Center works too: choose “Report a bug”.

We will reply, and we will help you get the information or finish the task another way while we fix the problem.

Ask the CoverGuard Advisor what the risk means

The CoverGuard Advisor reads the risk, models which carriers are likely to write it, and estimates what cover should cost — with every number sourced and auditable.
