Track your home's policies

Keep every policy on a home you're monitoring — homeowners, umbrella, flood, wind, and more — in one place, each with its own carrier, premium, coverage, and documents, so you always know what's actually covering the property.

Who this is for: Home Buyers and Sellers tracking their own home, and Agents tracking a client's current coverage. Where: Account → My Home (buyers & sellers), or a client record's insurance section (agents). Time: ~3 min.

Why this matters

Most homes aren't covered by a single policy. You might carry a homeowners policy plus a separate umbrella, a standalone flood or wind policy, or a dwelling-fire policy on a rental. Tracking them together gives you the full picture — total annual premium, every renewal date, and each policy's coverage limits — so nothing lapses and you can compare a new property against everything you already pay.

Before you start

  • Gather your policy documents — declarations pages, endorsements, flood, umbrella, whatever you have (PDF or a photo works). You don't have to sort them; you can add them all at once and let CoverGuard do the sorting.

How to add your policies

The fastest way is to let CoverGuard read your documents and build the policies for you — you don't pick a type or decide "is this a new policy?"

  1. Open Account → My Home (buyers & sellers) or your client's record (agents), and enter the home's address.
  2. Under Policies on this home, choose Upload & auto-detect policies and add all your documents together — homeowners, flood, umbrella, endorsements.
  3. CoverGuard reads every document, sorts them into separate policies, classifies each one's type, attaches its supporting document(s), and fills in the carrier, premium, deductible, coverage limit, and renewal it can read. Your home's address is filled in from the documents too, if it was blank.
  4. Review. Each detected policy appears in the list. Open one to check or correct anything — the type, the numbers, or which documents belong to it.
  5. Save.

Prefer to do it by hand? Add a policy manually creates a blank policy you fill in yourself, and every field stays editable — so you can always correct what the AI detected or add a policy you have no document for.

What you'll see / What it means

Your identified policies show up as a tidy list you can view two ways — Table (a compact row per policy) or Rows (a card per policy) — using the toggle at the top of the section. Each policy starts minimized so several policies read at a glance; open one to see and edit its full detail. A short summary rolls them up — how many policies you're tracking and your total annual premium across all of them.

Every policy keeps its own renewal date, so you can see exactly what's coming up and when; your main homeowners policy's renewal is the one that drives renewal reminders today.

Your documents are stored privately — links to them are short-lived and generated only when you open them, so a policy PDF is never left on a public URL. Premiums and coverage you enter are your own figures; anything the platform models elsewhere is a modeled estimate (decision support, not a binding quote).

Tips

  • Drop everything in at once — CoverGuard groups a declarations page with its endorsements into one policy, and splits a bundle that lists several policies into several. Just review the result.
  • Always give a moment to the detected type and numbers before saving. Detection is a head start, not the last word — the type sets the coverage-limit label (dwelling for homeowners, each-occurrence for umbrella, building for flood) and keeps renewal reminders accurate.
  • Already have a policy in the list? Open it and use Auto-fill with AI to re-read that one policy's document.
  • Agents: track a client's full policy set here so you can show, side by side, how a candidate home stacks up against everything the client pays today.

Troubleshooting / Common questions

  • "It didn't detect all my policies." → Open any policy to correct its type, or use Add a policy manually. You can also re-upload the ones it missed — detection runs on up to 8 documents at a time, so add the rest in a second batch.
  • "My upload didn't attach." → Policy files must be a PDF, JPG, or PNG under 10 MB each. Try a smaller file or a clearer photo.
  • "It couldn't read a document." → Re-upload a clearer copy; the document is still attached so you can fill in its details by hand — see Account & login.

Do this next

Compare the home you just recorded against a property you're considering, and set up reminders so no renewal slips.
